The ARA Better Fuels Group (BFG) is seeking a Staff Lab Technician to provide technical and operational support to the Laboratory Manager on a variety of laboratory-based tasks.

Under general supervision, the Staff Lab Technician performs routine and non‐routine analyses as assigned using standard but generally complex chemical analyzing techniques

This is a full-time non-exempt position; typical 8-hour day shifts (with rare 12-hour shifts, days and/or nights, depending on project requirements). Overtime available as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze, record, and interpret results utilizing a variety of procedures and equipment alongside other technicians/chemists

  • Properly prepare a variety of samples including weighing masses, measuring volumes, dilutions, and more

  • Report and calculate data through utilization of a spreadsheet-based system

  • Learning, maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, pH meters)

Experience and skills required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 2-3 years of related experience

  • Mechanically inclined

  • Ability to learn how to set up, operate and maintain several types of laboratory equipment

  • Good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Computer literate with experience in MS Word or Excel

Experience and skills preferred:

  • Experience working in a lab, operating and maintaining several types of laboratory equipment

  • Experience working with spectrophotometers, burets (volumetric), balances, pH meters, centrifuge, XRF, ICP-OES, GC, etc.
