Applied Research Associates, Inc. Staff Civil Engineer - Pavement Engineering in Springfield, Illinois

Description

ARA is seeking a pavement engineer to support our work as a consultant to the Illinois Department of Transportation. This is a full-time position working on-site at the Illinois DOT in Springfield, IL.

What you will do as a staff civil engineer:

Under the direction of the ARA project manager, you will perform tasks that may include, but not be limited to:

  • Assisting with developing specifications and policy documents.

  • Arranging for the deployment and technology transfer of research project findings and deliverables.

  • Evaluating and reporting on the benefit of implementing research project findings.

  • Preparing and maintaining annual nondestructive testing programs (FWD, skid resistance, and surface profile).

  • Assisting and participating in yearly conferences, workshops and programs.

  • Reviewing pavement design and life cycle costs from Illinois DOT districts.

  • Maintaining the mechanistic pavement monitoring program and coordinating data input for the database.

  • Reviewing and analyzing contract pavement roughness data in general accordance with project specification and special provisions.

Occasional travel and outdoor work (field testing) may be required.

Staff civil engineer requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or related field, with a focus on pavement engineering

  • 5+ years professional engineering experience, including:

  • Thorough understanding of pavement engineering principles and construction practices

  • Experience developing pavement-related policies and specifications

  • Experience with pavement surface characteristics greatly preferred but not required

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Please submit a copy of your license with your application.

  • Knowledge of current Illinois DOT policies and practices preferred
